My Happy Mind
At Townfield Primary School, we have introduced the NHS My Happy Mind Programme to support our children with their mental health. It consists of 5 modules which help the children to recognise how they are feeling and be pro-active about how they can self-regulate their emotions.
Module 1 is about knowing the brain and how it works. It explains to the children how, when they are anxious or scared, parts of the brain go to sleep and the part that responds with freeze, fight or flight is working by itself. The children have learnt how to use the power of Happy Breathing to be ready to think logically and use their memory of similar experiences in order to return to a calm state. This will also help them be ready to learn.
Module 2 is about strength of character and recognising that who we are is more important than what we can do. It's about the children celebrating the wonderful people that they are and knowing their own worth.
Module 3 is about gratitude. The children learn about what gratitude is and all of the different ways that they can express their gratitude. They will also understand why gratitude is so important for our mental health. It's all about having an attitude of gratitude!
Module 4 helps the children identify the skills that they need to build positive relationships. They will explore how they can get along with each other and why relationships are so important for our mental health.
Module 5 involves finding out how we can use all of the skills that have been learned so far to be their best selves! They will learn about goal setting and why it is so important. They will learn how they can get started with setting their own goals.
