Curriculum

Communication and Language- This half term we will be exploring Traditional Tales.  We will begin with The Three Little Pigs. They will retell the stories and adapt them to create new versions. Children will learn to understand how to listen carefully and why listening is important.  New vocabulary will be taught and children will be encouraged to use new vocabulary through the day.

Literacy- We will be using the Read Write Inc scheme to teach phonics.  More information will following shortly, to explain how we teach this in school and how you can support your child at home.

Mathematics –  We are using Maths Mastery to teach maths.  Each week we will concentrate on one number in which all mathematical concepts are explored.  This ensures deep understanding of number and promotes the ability to notice patterns and make connections.

Physical Development - Children will be learning to develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently. This will include pencils for drawing and writing, paintbrushes, scissors, knives, forks and spoons.  They will also develop the skills they need to manage the school day successfully: lining up and queuing, mealtimes

Introduction to PE In this unit, children will be introduced to Physical Education and structured movement through the topic of 'everyday life'. They will spend time learning basic principles of a PE lesson such as safely using space, stopping safely, using and sharing equipment and working individually, with a partner and group. They will take part in activities which will develop fundamental movement skills such as running, jumping and skipping. Children will also play simple games and begin to understand and use rules.

Understanding the World -  Children will be learning to talk about members of their immediate family and community.  They will draw information from a simple map. They will describe what they see, hear and feel whilst outside.

Expressive Arts and Design - Children will be learning to create collaboratively, sharing ideas, resources and skills.  They will learn to listen attentively, move to and talk about music, expressing their feelings and responses and develop storylines in their pretend play

Woodland Learning

We are very proud of our ‘Woodland Learning’ offering, where your child will be experiencing a range of new skills in our forest every week. We want you to make the most of every session whatever the weather, so you will need to be appropriately dressed. Please make sure you PE/Woodland uniform on your ‘Woodland Learning Day’.

We have Woodland Learning every Monday.

Your child will also need to bring in waterproof clothes in a waterproofdraw-string bag and wellington boots. As the weather becomes colder they may also want to bring an extra jumper/fleece, an extra pair of warm socks, waterproof gloves and a warm hat.

Please ensure your child does not attend school wearing their wellies and arrives in alternative footwear as this ensures the spread of mud around school is kept to a minimum.  Children do not need to bring in book bags on a Monday.
