Year 4 4D 2020 - 2021
Welcome to Class 4D
Hello everybody! Hope you're all well.
All of our on line learning is through the Seesaw app now so please use that to find your work.
We will be setting daily English and maths for you to complete. There will be one PSHE and french lesson each week. Every day, there will be a link to a PE activity for you to take part in. We have also just sent you your username and passwords for our exciting new reading platform. You need to be reading daily. Finally, each week there will be an assembly for you to take part in which will give you opportunity to eplore different things that are going on in our world and to reflect on them.
Any work that you do please upload through the app so that we can see it and respond back to you.
I've added a link at the bottom of this page for a video that gives you instructions on how to use seesaw.
Hopefully we will all be back together soon!
Stay safe everybody!
Hello and welcome to class 4D. In your class Mrs Dixon is your teacher. You will also meet from time to time Mrs Cavanagh and Mrs Chen.
We are looking forward to an exciting year as we are starting our Woodland Learning for the very first time.
There will be Dojo points given out for children displaying our character traits of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. Your children will love telling you about them.
At Townfield we have high expectations of the children in terms of their behaivour, attendance, uniform and learning attitude. All of these things contribute to your children making good progress in all areas of the curriculum. The children are made aware of the expectations of behaviour and our Code of Conduct. When children follow by being respectful, responsible and resilient, they are awarded with Dojo points and the possiblity of receiving our class Golden Tie which they wear the following week.
We expect each child to carry out any home learning which is given to them to a high standard which reflects the work that they complete in class. If you have any concerns over home learning please let me know and we can work together to solve any problems.
Our curriculum this term
English - We will be looking at the lovely story of 'Arthur and the Golden Rope' which is a myth narrative.
Maths - We have an exciting new way of learning maths called 'Maths No Problem'. This half term will be all about time and money.
Science - Our topic for the first half term is all about electricity.
History - We will be exploring the fascinating world of Vikings.
PSHE - We will be looking at our achievements.
PE - Daily links provided.
Each Thursday, your child will take part in a Woodland Learning experience. This will take place outdoors in our wonderful wooded area. The children will take part in many exciting activities and will develop many kinds of skills including social and personal skills.
It is imperative that they are dressed appropriately in order for them to be comfortable throughout the session, as they will be out in all kinds of weathers.
The children in 4D will have indoor PE on Monday morning and outdoor PE on Tuesday afternoon. The children will need to come to school in their appropriate PE clothing.
How to help at home
On Friday afternoon, the children will bring home spellings and their home reading book. They will need to return both on the following Tuesday regardless of whether they have finished their book. If they haven't finished their book then they can choose it again to bring home on the Friday.
The children's spellings cover specific spelling patterns that are to learnt in year 4 and also words from the Year 3 and 4 spelling list. The children are encouraged to practise their spellings in a variety of ways to ensure that they stick. We ask the children to complete the sheet to the same standard that we expect in class. When they come to do the section where they put the spelling into a sentence then we ask them to challenge themselves with trying to add in adjectives, fronted adverbials and conjunctions. They are also asked to complete it in their best handwriting using either a pencil or a pen.
Your child is asked to read their book at least 3 times a week and we ask that you sign their diary each time that they read.
At the end of Year 4, the children will be taking part in a multiplication test along with all Year 4 children across the country. They all have log-ins for Times Tables Rock Stars so we ask that they log onto this site at least 3 times a week to practise their times tables.
