Governance

As part of Rainbow Education Multi Academy Trust, governance is overseen by our Trustees.   Full details of the REMAT structure and our Trustees can be found on the REMAT website.   At school level, governance is dealt with by our Local Governing Body (LGB).    The LGB is made up of Local Academy Councillors (LACs), previously referred to as Governors.    Please refer to the Scheme of Delegation for further details in relation to the roles and responsibilities of the Trustees and Local Academy Councillors.

TPS Governance

Our LGB consists of a dedicated  group of community, parent and staff representatives who, support and challenge the Headteacher at Townfield Primary to ensure that all children receive the best education.   The Headteacher, is responsible for the day to day running of the school, and the LAC work in conjunction with her to set the resources necessary to deliver consistently high standards of teaching and learning.

The LACs are committed to ensuring that each and every child reaches their potential and leaves us ready for the next stage of life, regardless of their background or circumstance.

The composition of our LAC is as follows:-

  • two parent councillors
  • one staff councillor
  • two co-opted councillors
  • the Headteacher

TPS Local Academy Councillors - Roles & Responsibilities

Our LACs are volunteers who work collaboratively to:

  • promote and carry forward the Trust's vision, policies and priorities
  • provide internal assurance
  • develop local community links

All LAC's have Townfield Primary School's interests at heart, particularly focusing on the children and education.  Scrutiny of school policies and procedures, is delegated as per the Trust's Scheme of Delegation (see documents below).  Each LAC is allocated a specific area which compliments their area of expertise, otherwise known as "governor links".   As part of these links, LACs will conduct school visits and complete regular tailored reviews and feedback reports, helping school strive for the best possible outcomes for the students and school.   As part of their role, all LACs receive training from the Trust to support and develop their roles and are also bound by a Code of Conduct befitting of their role.

Regardless of their roles, all LACs have a duty to ensure the safeguarding of any child at Townfield Primary.   Safeguarding training is delivered to all LACs and child protection is discussed at every LGB meeting.
