In RE, we have been studying Christianity. We explored belonging and making promises. We listened to a story from the bible that Christians believe in called Noah and the Ark. We learned that God made a promise to Noah and Noah made one back. We learned that some promises are easier to keep than others and created our own class puzzle of promises that we would like make and to try our best to keep them. The bible says that God always keeps his promises and Christians believe this to be true
We then studied how Christians welcome new babies through a Christening. We watched a short video of a baby being christened by a vicar. We learned who the people present at a christening are; Parents, God parents and a vicar. Once we had learned all about this, we role-played our own christenings.
1C Geography Signs of Spring Feb 2024
Date: 20th Mar 2024 @ 8:25pm
As part of our United Kingdom and the Weather topic, we went outside to look for signs of Spring. We looked for subtle changes that were beginning to take place. We spotted, budding branches, we heard birds singing, some insects were scurrying thriugh the soil, plants were beginning to shoot and we discussed how the sun has begun to rise earlier and set later .

In computing we are looking at branching databases. We first looked at simple yes and no questions, then further looked into using these questions to create a branching database with dinosaurs. We worked together in groups, to figure out how our questions and dinosaur pictures could be used to create a branching database. In another lesson, we used an online software called ‘j2data’ to create new branching databases.

In art we have been looking at Greek vases created by Monica Young. Following our artist Monica Young for inspiration, we have been designing and making our own Greek pots. We used clay to make our pots and then we blended acrylic paints together to create an earthy orange colour to paint our pots with.

The children had a really interesting session with some volunteers from the NSPCC who taught the children their voices will always be heard.
3S: Art - Painting our Ancient Greek inspired pots
Date: 16th Mar 2024 @ 6:51pm
This week in Art, we created our own shades and tones of orange to paint our Greek pots. We then used black to add a subtle design to our pot.
3S: Computing - Branching Databases
Date: 16th Mar 2024 @ 6:46pm
Last week, we designed a branching database in teams on paper. This week, we created our own database using j2e.com on the iPads.

British Science Week ~ Time
For British Science Week we decided to play 'Metamorphosis Mayhem' which tied in nicely with our topic on animals including humans. We have been looking at life cycles and in particular this week, the life cycle of a butterfly and a frog. The children really enjoyed playing a game of rock, paper, scissors and moving through the different life stages of both a frog and a butterfly. They enjoyed competing with friends and observing who was going to make it to the final stage in the life cycle.
All of the children developed their knowledge of the different parts of both life cycles and learnt what the term 'metamorphosis' means. Well done 2MJ, I am sure you will remember this game as highlight of Year 2 as you all enjoyed it so much.

Today, we took part in a live live lesson, delivered by TechSheCan. The lesson was all about 'Science in Sport'. The children learnt about wearables. These are things that people can wear when completing sports to track things such as, heart rate, temperature and speed. The children had a go at designing their own wearables and what data it would track. We also looked at how AI and other sciences are heavily involved in influencing different sports. Children were given the opportunity to explore different jobs within sports science and technology, to hopefully inspire future scientis

3S - PSHE: No Outsiders Socrates Lesson
Date: 14th Mar 2024 @ 9:56am
Mr McNally came to our class today to showcase a children's philosophy (Socrates) lesson. As a school we are teaching the children to become deep, critical thinkers.
We started off with some silent warm up activities eg. Put yourself in register order, put yourself in door number order without speaking (children had to think of other ways they could communicate their door number to others). This was so much fun.
We then read our 'No Outsiders' book, The Truth about Old People and voted on a question we could study. We chose 'Are old people fun to be around?'. Children were keen to add their opinions to this and really enjoyed the lesson.

In Year 4, we have been looking at food chains and identifying producers, consumers, predators and prey. We have also studied the digestive system. This week, we dissected an owl pellet, which is the undigested part of an owl's food that is regurgitated. We were able to identify what the owl's prey was. It was very interesting!!

In art, Year 1 have been exploring using different media. We used pencils and charcoal to show how we can create different tones. To create darker tones we had to press more firmly and to create lighter tones we pressed lightly. We found that the charcoal was good at smudging so we tried creating different effects with it. After we had explored the media, we drew some Tudor houses using feathery strokes for our lines. We had to hold the pencil further up to be able to do this.

The children took part in a dissolving experiment today in science where they tested whether the amount of solvent affects how quickly it dissolves. They put different amounts of sugar into a cup and timed how long it takes to dissolve.

The children were really proud of their finished doorbells that they made in DT. They carefully chose who the user would be and what the product would be used for. They then designed and made a circuitpicking an appropriate alarm and switch which would be suitable for their product.
