Year 4 - 4M: Gallery

4M English - Mood of the Image

During this term, year 4 are focusing on a book called 'The Journey'. We have spent time exploring the mood of different images from our vehicle text. We created our own fronted adverbials, expanded noun phrases and figurative language to create an intended effect on the reader. 

4M Science - Invertebrate Hunt

Following on from classifying different types of animals, we then explored invertebrates. We had the opportunity to explore the local habitats to find some invertebrates and classify them using a classification key. 

4M Maths- Money

Our latest topic in maths is money, we have been learning how to write different amounts of money depending on how many coins we have. We have also been comparing different amount of money to see which items are better value. Have a look at some of our superb journaling. 

4M Science- Animal Classification

In science this term, 4M are looking at classifying different animals. We have created our own classification key, using the key characteristics of each group to help us find out which animal belongs to which group. Have a look at some fabulous examples. 

4M Mad Hair Day

4M Music - Haiku compositions

4M have been exploring blossom and spring haiku poems. They have then created their own melodies using the glockenspiels using notes that match the lines from their poems. The children then performed their final compositions.

4M PSHE - Challenges

During PSHE this term, we have been focusing on challenges and how to show resilience and perseverance when we come across a barrier preventing us from reaching our goal. We did a circuit of activities which challenged the children e.g. tying shoe laces, writing with their non dominant hand and building a tower out of cards.

4M DT - Torches

During our DT topic, we created torches for a specific purpose. Children explored how to create circuits with a switch and applied this to their torch design. Some children created headtorches, hand torches and safety torches. The children worked really hard to meet their design criteria. 

4M Science - Soundproofing Investigation

Year 4 have been exploring sound within science. We planned an investigation to explore which materials are best at soundproofing. The children used a decibel metre app to record the volume with each material covering the speaker. 

4M STEM Robotics Workshop

We had the opportunity to have a STEM Robotics Workshop working with Lego. In the STEM workshop, children have been working on their engineering skills. To begin with, children took part in some activities to familiarise themselves with Lego and programming software. Their next task was to build and program a roaring lion. Children learned about gears, timers, motor power, and simple algorithms to control their models and used practical problem-solving skills to create their models. Their learning was then extended to using motion sensors within their algorithm. They then programmed the Lion with movement, sound, and backgrounds.

Dance Club

Here are our Dance Club lead by the fantastic Mrs Kyriazis learning new dance moves and putting them into a routine. 

 

 

4M Science: States of matter

During science this term, 4M have been exploring states of matter and the changes of state. We were able to complete lots of investigation including:  Do gases weigh anything? Which temperature causes chocolate to melt the quickest? We discovered what happened to the particles when they were changing state.

4M English: Leaf by Sandra Dieckmann

During English, we have been exploring our new book 'Leaf" by Sandra Dieckmann. We have been making predicitions based on the front cover and the blurb. We were able to make connections to previous book we had read to help us form our predictions. Also, we have been exploring noun phrases and how we can up level our language to make our sentences more exciting for the reader.

4M Woodland Learning - Reading

At the end of each woodland learning session, we take some time to read our book 'Running Wild' by Michael Morpurgo. Reading outside of the classroom provides us with a different environment to explore our book and gives us time to wind down after an exciting Woodland lesson.

4M History - Tudors

During History this term, we have been exploring the 'Troublesome Tudors'. We focused on Henry V111 and his 6 wives - Can you believe he beheaded his wives just because they couldn't give him a son? 

We also studied the Battle of Bosworth and the causes of this battle - the children loved learning all about the gruesome consequences.

4M English- The Whale

What a fabulous half term we have had completing our English learning. We have been studying the book "The Whale", we have produced two excellent writing outcomes: A setting description and Newspaper report. Have a look at some amazing examples below. 

Writing stories as good as these is a long process. We have to plan, write and then edit and redraft - 4M have worked extremely hard on their writing this term and I am very proud of them!

4M Geography: How and why is our local area changing?

In geography this term, we have been exploring the question ' How and why is our local area changing?' We used digimaps to help familiarise ourselves with Oxton and the different features we could find on our map. This included looking at residential, commercial, public service and recreational areas near us.

4M PE: Gymnastics

Our indoor PE unit this term has been gymnastics. We have begun by focusing on shapes and jumps which will eventually help us when we prodcue our final gymnastics routine. We have had lots of fun exploring our balance and how we can use a partner to make our routines more interesting.

4M Science: Tooth Decay Experiment

During science this term, we were able to plan and conduct our own experiment about tooth decay. We were given the option of 5 different liquids and our aim was to see what effect they had on a piece of chewing gum (this acted as our tooth). We worked really hard to plan a fair test and conduct our experiment effectively.

4M Science: The Digestive System

WOW! What fun we have had learning about the digestive system. Our topic began with understanding the location of the organs involved in the digestive system. We even had the opportunity to locate them on our friends body! Following on from this, we were very lucky to have a visitor come into school and explain to us the journey of baked beans. We were able to observe what happened at each stage of the digestive system ... we will never forget this lesson!

4M Reading: The World of Whales

Each week in reading, we focus on a new book. This week we have been exploring the book 'The World of Whales', where the children have been discovering the different qualities each whale has in order to survive in the ocean. We have thoroughly enjoyed defining key vocabulary and text marking our book to find the answers to our anchor questions.

4M Maths: Place Value

During the beginning of Autumn term, 4M have been focusing on place value. We have been exploring the different representations of each digit in a number. We have been able to represent our numbers using place value discs.
