Year 4 - 4M: Gallery

During science this term, 4M have been exploring states of matter and the changes of state. We were able to complete lots of investigation including: Do gases weigh anything? Which temperature causes chocolate to melt the quickest? We discovered what happened to the particles when they were changing state.

During English, we have been exploring our new book 'Leaf" by Sandra Dieckmann. We have been making predicitions based on the front cover and the blurb. We were able to make connections to previous book we had read to help us form our predictions. Also, we have been exploring noun phrases and how we can up level our language to make our sentences more exciting for the reader.

At the end of each woodland learning session, we take some time to read our book 'Running Wild' by Michael Morpurgo. Reading outside of the classroom provides us with a different environment to explore our book and gives us time to wind down after an exciting Woodland lesson.

During History this term, we have been exploring the 'Troublesome Tudors'. We focused on Henry V111 and his 6 wives - Can you believe he beheaded his wives just because they couldn't give him a son?
We also studied the Battle of Bosworth and the causes of this battle - the children loved learning all about the gruesome consequences.

What a fabulous half term we have had completing our English learning. We have been studying the book "The Whale", we have produced two excellent writing outcomes: A setting description and Newspaper report. Have a look at some amazing examples below.
Writing stories as good as these is a long process. We have to plan, write and then edit and redraft - 4M have worked extremely hard on their writing this term and I am very proud of them!

In geography this term, we have been exploring the question ' How and why is our local area changing?' We used digimaps to help familiarise ourselves with Oxton and the different features we could find on our map. This included looking at residential, commercial, public service and recreational areas near us.

Our indoor PE unit this term has been gymnastics. We have begun by focusing on shapes and jumps which will eventually help us when we prodcue our final gymnastics routine. We have had lots of fun exploring our balance and how we can use a partner to make our routines more interesting.

During science this term, we were able to plan and conduct our own experiment about tooth decay. We were given the option of 5 different liquids and our aim was to see what effect they had on a piece of chewing gum (this acted as our tooth). We worked really hard to plan a fair test and conduct our experiment effectively.

WOW! What fun we have had learning about the digestive system. Our topic began with understanding the location of the organs involved in the digestive system. We even had the opportunity to locate them on our friends body! Following on from this, we were very lucky to have a visitor come into school and explain to us the journey of baked beans. We were able to observe what happened at each stage of the digestive system ... we will never forget this lesson!

Each week in reading, we focus on a new book. This week we have been exploring the book 'The World of Whales', where the children have been discovering the different qualities each whale has in order to survive in the ocean. We have thoroughly enjoyed defining key vocabulary and text marking our book to find the answers to our anchor questions.

During the beginning of Autumn term, 4M have been focusing on place value. We have been exploring the different representations of each digit in a number. We have been able to represent our numbers using place value discs.
