Year 2 Fieldwork : Urban and Rural Locations

Date: 27th Mar 2024 @ 5:39pm

Today, year 2 completed their Geography unit by spending the day working geographically in two contrasting locations on the Wirral Peninsula. Firstly, we visited Oxton village and recorded the human and physical features that we could see, made a tally chart of these and played eye spy! We had some very amused passers-by! We then continued on to our second location of Thurstaston coast. Here we repeated the earlier tasks, including some sketching and a ranger led walk. We had a fantastic day and I'm sure we will all sleep well tonight - I think it's safe to say that we have some brilliant geographers amongst us in Year 2. Well done everyone.

Date: 26th Jan 2024 @ 12:19pm

Year 2 practised simple preparation techniques with a range of vegetables e.g. claw and bridge grip to cut and peel.

2B- DT Evaluating Vegetables

Date: 19th Jan 2024 @ 3:36pm

In Year 2, their DT topic is 'Healthy Kebabs'. For their fist lesson, they got to evaluate a range of vegetables such as, peppers, olives, carrots, cucumber, tomatoes and mushrooms. They had to think about the name of the vegetables, where it is grown and use adjectives to describe what it looked and felt like. The children then got to smell and taste the vegetables! They then had to think about which vegetable they preferred and which one they would include in their final product, which is a healthy kebab. Year 2 really enjoyed this lesson and tasting vegetables they have never tried before!

Year 2 - Woodlice Investigation

Date: 10th Nov 2023 @ 12:51pm

In science, the children have been learning about microhabitats.

For our investigation, the children had to find out what type of microhabitat woodlice would prefer.

3 types of micrhabitats in the investigation:

  1. Wet leaves and stones (damp and dark)
  2. Wet sand (damp and light)
  3. Dry stones (dry and dark)

The children places the woodlice in the centre of the box with the three different types of microhabitats and observed where they would go. The children counted how many woodlice were in each microhabitat after 1, 2 and 10 minutes.

After 10 minutes, the children found out that the woodlice preferred to be in wet leaves and stones because the conditions were damp and dark.

Date: 11th Oct 2023 @ 4:17pm

We have been continuing to discuss what makes a good friend. Today we made our own class friendship web and discovered how we are all connected by friendship in our class. We discussed the character traits that make a good person and a good friend and how we choose our friends for the positive attributes they have and how they share those attributes in the friendship we have with them. We looked at both positive character traits and negative character traits and discussed what each term means.
