Date: 16th Mar 2024 @ 6:51pm
This week in Art, we created our own shades and tones of orange to paint our Greek pots. We then used black to add a subtle design to our pot.
3S: Computing - Branching Databases
Date: 16th Mar 2024 @ 6:46pm
Last week, we designed a branching database in teams on paper. This week, we created our own database using j2e.com on the iPads.
3S - PSHE: No Outsiders Socrates Lesson
Date: 14th Mar 2024 @ 9:56am
Mr McNally came to our class today to showcase a children's philosophy (Socrates) lesson. As a school we are teaching the children to become deep, critical thinkers.
We started off with some silent warm up activities eg. Put yourself in register order, put yourself in door number order without speaking (children had to think of other ways they could communicate their door number to others). This was so much fun.
We then read our 'No Outsiders' book, The Truth about Old People and voted on a question we could study. We chose 'Are old people fun to be around?'. Children were keen to add their opinions to this and really enjoyed the lesson.
3S - Art: Making our Ancient Greek inspired pots
Date: 8th Mar 2024 @ 7:26pm
Today we made our Ancient Greek inspired pots with terracotta clay.
We constructed a base then created coils that we layered on top of each other and secured by scoring the surface of each layer and then painting on 'slip' which is a mixture of clay and water that forms a glue. We then smoothed out the sides, some of us added handles and we used clay tools to add some designs in the clay. We now have to wait until later on next week when they're completely dry to paint them.
Date: 7th Mar 2024 @ 10:29pm
We really enjoyed some super, extremely energetic games of dodgeball in this week's lesson.
3S - Computing: Branching Databases
Date: 7th Mar 2024 @ 10:27pm
Today, we created our own mini branching databases by grouping dinosaurs according to certain attributes.
Date: 7th Mar 2024 @ 10:24pm
Take a look at all our wonderful costumes! Mrs Simmons thought the Wednesday Adam's girls perfected their facial expressions wonderfully :)
3S - Computing: Branching databases
Date: 4th Mar 2024 @ 9:58pm
To begin our topic for this term on Branching Databases, we started to think about how we can group items based on their attributes. We then looked at questioning and discussed open ended questions and closed questions which require a simple yes or no answer. We then worked in groups as attribute detectives to try to solve which item our group member had chosen by asking yes/ no (closed) questions.
3S - DT: making and decorating our final product
Date: 14th Feb 2024 @ 9:28pm
Today, we completed our DT topic by making our final product. When we had planned our design brief, we had each chosen to make either a purse, a wallet or a pencil case. We started today by cutting our felt to the correct size and shape as per our design brief then we threaded our needles and using running stitch or whip stitch, we sewed up the seams.
We mostly used Velcro as our fastening and then we decorated our final product and evaluated it in our DT books.
Date: 8th Feb 2024 @ 8:45pm
This week, during our Science lesson, we had a special visitor!
Mabel came to visit us in our classroom 😊
3S DT: Designing our purse/wallet/pencil case
Date: 5th Feb 2024 @ 9:01pm
Today, we created our design brief for our purse, wallet or pencil case. We drew out our pattern pieces being sure to incorporate a seam allowance then set to work on designing our end product.
3S - Ancient Greece School Trip
Date: 25th Jan 2024 @ 9:13pm
We had a super time at World Museum Liverpool's Ancient Greece Workshop and Return of the Gods Exhibition today. We even managed a quick trip into the aquarium and the Bug House before the coach arrived to bring us back to school.
3S - Music: Pentatonic Melodies
Date: 21st Jan 2024 @ 4:25pm
This week, in music, we used the glockenspiel to begin learning how to create or own pentatonic (5 note) melodies.
3S - Computing: Scratch: Programming a Sprite
Date: 21st Jan 2024 @ 4:23pm
In computing, we added and deleted sprites then programmed them to make specific movements.
Date: 21st Jan 2024 @ 4:21pm
What a wonderful, cold and memorable woodland learning session we had in the snow! We are lucky because when it last snowed, last March, when we were in Year 2, it was also our Woodland session that day!
Date: 13th Dec 2023 @ 9:45pm
In this lesson, we put together all our knowledge of gymnastics from the last 6 weeks and developed our own group routines where we mirrored each other, made contrasting moves and incorporated point and patch balances, shape jumps, rolls (straight, barrel and forward) and transitioning. We then showcased our routines to the rest of the class.
Date: 13th Dec 2023 @ 9:26pm
We completed our cave paintings today, sketching our hunting scenes, using chalk pastels to add our earthy colours, blended and smudged to try and create a more depth and a effect on the animals and adding our Aboriginal dot art. (Mrs Simmons is trying to upload all the artwork but has so far been unsuccessful).
3S: Music: playing notes B, A and G on recorder
Date: 5th Dec 2023 @ 8:34pm
Today we revised our staff notation of the notes B, A and G by playing 'Hot Cross Buns' on the recorder.
3S : Art - smudging and blending
Date: 27th Nov 2023 @ 7:42pm
In our Art lesson today, we drew around our hands again then used chalk pastels to create smudging and blending effects.
3S: Computing - Ordering commands
Date: 27th Nov 2023 @ 7:27pm
Using Scratch, the children compared sound commands, explored and compared sound sequences and then created an algorithm to order musical notes to play the second half of the tune, 'twinkle twinkle little star'.
3S - Art: Aboriginal Art (dot painting)
Date: 22nd Nov 2023 @ 8:07pm
We looked closely at aboriginal art and discussed the similarities and differences between cave art and aboriginal art. We noticed that aboriginal art was much brighter and mostly completed in dots rather than harsh lines. Patterns are also very prominent in aboriginal art.
We then used earthy tones as per the cave paintings we have been looking at the last few weeks and created our own dot paintings of our hand.
Date: 21st Nov 2023 @ 9:07pm
In our lesson, we talked about sequences; what they are and when and where we see sequences in our everyday lives. We then discussed how we can can create our own sequences of connected commands using Scratch.
In pairs, we drew up our own mini projects by chosing a scratch sprite each, selecting our event blocks to begin our sequence then our motion blocks depending on what we wanted out sprite to do.
Scratch is a new programme for us to get used to (we have previously used the much more basic app, Scratch Jnr) but Mrs Simmons was very proud of how quickly we understood the different functions and even said we could teach her a few things!
Date: 16th Nov 2023 @ 9:28pm
This week in French, we revised being able to answer our name, how we feel, where we live and our age. We then learnt some teacher commands that would be heard in a French classroom. Finally, we revised the names of some popular classroom items. We love learning French!
Date: 16th Nov 2023 @ 9:14pm
In today's PE lesson, we were developing out straight, barrel and forward rolls.
