Key Stage 2 Visit from the RNLI

This week, Key Stage 2 enjoyed a wonderful extended 'water safety' assembly by Sean and Andy, Lifeguards from the RNLI.

The children took part in a dissolving experiment today in science where they tested whether the amount of solvent affects how quickly it dissolves. They put different amounts of sugar into a cup and timed how long it takes to dissolve.

The children were really proud of their finished doorbells that they made in DT. They carefully chose who the user would be and what the product would be used for. They then designed and made a circuitpicking an appropriate alarm and switch which would be suitable for their product.

The children had a really interesting session with some volunteers from the NSPCC who told them the importance of speaking out if someone is upsetting you or abusing you.
they looked at different types of abuse and how to deal with them.

The Children had a great day dressing up as their favourite characters from books for world book day. Well done to George who won best costume in KS2 with his amazing Harry Potter costume.
Trip to the World Museum 7.12.23

The children loved our trip to the World Museum. We went to the planetarium where we watched a show about the moon landings. After that, we explored the different floors of the museum and then after lunch, we went to the Walker Art Gallery where we sketched some drawings of the paintings we saw.

In DT we made bread for children in reception. When we had made them we took them down to our reception classes and shared them with the children.

In our science lesson we investigated how different materials are affected by air resistance by making parachutes with different materials and timing how long they take to fall from a height.

Food Bank Charles Thompson Mission Charity

We have been blown away by the amount of food that the families of Townfield have generously donated to Charles Thompson Mission charity! When the donations were collected on Tuesday, the volunteers from the charity said that our school had provided the biggest harvest that they had received this year! We thank you all very much for your ongoing support and generosity. You have helped so many people in need this harvest season.

In our science topic on Forces, we investigated how different shapes affect water resistance. We made 3D shapes and then dropped them in water timing how long they took to drop.

The children have been really enjoying their Basketball sessions with Miss Rowe. This week they practiced different passes including bounce and chest passes.

This half term, the children will be designing and making their own bread. In our first lesson we tried some different breads from around the world including croissants and tiger bread.

The children had great fun learning about Friction by investigating which material would cause the most friction on a ramp when a car went down it.
