3S: Computing - Branching Databases

Date: 16th Mar 2024 @ 6:46pm

Last week, we designed a branching database in teams on paper. This week, we created our own database using j2e.com on the iPads.

3S - PE: Athletics

We did some exciting team games in PE this week.

2MJ British Science Week

Date: 14th Mar 2024 @ 7:45pm

British Science Week ~ Time

For British Science Week we decided to play 'Metamorphosis Mayhem' which tied in nicely with our topic on animals including humans. We have been looking at life cycles and in particular this week, the life cycle of a butterfly and a frog. The children really enjoyed playing a game of rock, paper, scissors and moving through the different life stages of both a frog and a butterfly. They enjoyed competing with friends and observing who was going to make it to the final stage in the life cycle.
All of the children developed their knowledge of the different parts of both life cycles and learnt what the term 'metamorphosis' means. Well done 2MJ, I am sure you will remember this game as highlight of Year 2 as you all enjoyed it so much.

2MJ Science Live Lesson

Date: 14th Mar 2024 @ 7:31pm

Today, we took part in a live live lesson, delivered by TechSheCan. The lesson was all about 'Science in Sport'. The children learnt about wearables. These are things that people can wear when completing sports to track things such as, heart rate, temperature and speed. The children had a go at designing their own wearables and what data it would track. We also looked at how AI and other sciences are heavily involved in influencing different sports. Children were given the opportunity to explore different jobs within sports science and technology, to hopefully inspire future scientis

6P Heart Dissection

Date: 14th Mar 2024 @ 3:46pm

A brilliant afternoon dissecting hearts for year 6, we learnt lots about keeping a healthy heart and then we dissected the parts of the hearts we have been learning about!

3S - PSHE: No Outsiders Socrates Lesson

Date: 14th Mar 2024 @ 9:56am

Mr McNally came to our class today to showcase a children's philosophy (Socrates) lesson. As a school we are teaching the children to become deep, critical thinkers.

We started off with some silent warm up activities eg. Put yourself in register order, put yourself in door number order without speaking (children had to think of other ways they could communicate their door number to others). This was so much fun.

We then read our 'No Outsiders' book, The Truth about Old People and voted on a question we could study. We chose 'Are old people fun to be around?'. Children were keen to add their opinions to this and really enjoyed the lesson.

4D Science

Date: 13th Mar 2024 @ 4:23pm

In Year 4, we have been looking at food chains and identifying producers, consumers, predators and prey. We have also studied the digestive system. This week, we dissected an owl pellet, which is the undigested part of an owl's food that is regurgitated. We were able to identify what the owl's prey was. It was very interesting!!

1D art

Date: 13th Mar 2024 @ 10:40am

In art, Year 1 have been exploring using different media.  We used pencils and charcoal to show how we can create different tones.  To create darker tones we had to press more firmly and to create lighter tones we pressed lightly. We found that the charcoal was good at smudging so we tried creating different effects with it.  After we had explored the media, we drew some Tudor houses using feathery strokes for our lines. We had to hold the pencil further up to be able to do this.

Dissolving experiment

Date: 13th Mar 2024 @ 8:26am

The children took part in a dissolving experiment today in science where they tested whether the amount of solvent affects how quickly it dissolves. They put different amounts of sugar into a cup and timed how long it takes to dissolve.

DT Doorbells

Date: 13th Mar 2024 @ 8:22am

The children were really proud of their finished doorbells that they made in DT.  They carefully chose who the user would be and what the product would be used for.  They then designed and made a circuitpicking an appropriate alarm and switch which would be suitable for their product.

NSPCC

Date: 13th Mar 2024 @ 8:18am

The children had a really interesting session with some volunteers from the NSPCC who told them the importance of speaking out if someone is upsetting you or abusing you.

they looked at different types of abuse and how to deal with them.

The Children had a great day dressing up as their favourite characters from books for world book day.  Well done to George who won best costume in KS2 with his amazing Harry Potter costume.

Nursery: Butterfly life cycles (UTW/Science)

Date: 12th Mar 2024 @ 1:23pm

The children in Nursery have been learning about the life cycle of a butterfly. They are able to recognise the different stages and name them. They have used the vocabulary; egg, caterpillar, pupa and butterfly.

1D geography

Date: 12th Mar 2024 @ 9:40am

In geography we have been learning about the four countries of the United Kingdom and the borders between countries. We marked the countries of the United Kingdom, borders and coastline on a map. Then, we created a key to help us know what each area was.

1C geography UK

Date: 11th Mar 2024 @ 3:04pm

In Geography, we have been studying the countries that the United Kingdom is made up of. We have located these in our atlases, labelled them on a map and have created a key that clearly shows Scotland, England, Wales, Nortern a Ireland, seas and borders.
We then went on to name the seas and the oceans that surround the UK.

RM : Magnets (UTW: Science)

Date: 11th Mar 2024 @ 9:43am

This week we have been a deploring magnets. We looked at the different materials that were magnetic and felt the force when magnets repelled. We then had magnet races.

RM: Exploring Transport ( UTW: Geography and Computing)

Date: 11th Mar 2024 @ 9:40am

This week we began our new topic Travel and Transport. We explored different types of vehicles and how different countries have different types of vehicles.

We then collected data of our favourite vehicles by creating a tally chart and pictograms on the iPads.

RM: Renoir (EAD: Art)

Date: 11th Mar 2024 @ 9:37am

This week we have been exploring the winter painting created by Renoir. We looked at how we can make colours lighter and darker by adding white and black. We also explored different brush techniques such as long brush stroke, short brush stroke and stippling.

RM : Floating and Sinking ( UTW: Science and EAD: DT)

Date: 11th Mar 2024 @ 9:35am

This week we have been trying to help the penguin from lost hand found get home to the South Pole. We explored floating and sinking and tested different materials to make sure the penguin got home safely.

We then created our own boats, thinking very carefully about the materials we were using. We tested them in the water to make sure they worked and made any changes needed.
