Start of your Child's Learning Journey
We have a fantastic nursery provision at Townfield, staffed by qualified and caring staff, complimented by wonderful woodland learning environment. This natural environment which the children have access to all year round enhances the children's learning with a holistic approach, whilst following guidance provided with the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (EYFS).
One of the main aims of our nursery staff is to enhance learning, increase self-esteem, independence, risking taking, language development and much more.
Places at nursery are offered in the September following your child's 3rd Birthday.
Nursery School Day
Our school gates open from 8:45 am to welcome full time children and children coming in for a morning session. Children should be dropped off and collection at the Nursery classroom door (entrance via path opposite Wirral Hundred).
A full nursery day is 8.45 am to 3.15 pm.
Morning sessions times are 8.45 am - 11.45 am and afternoon sessions are 12.15 am to 3.15 pm.
Please note for children who are entitled to 30 hour funding and attend 4.5 days, their Friday session is extended by 1 hour meaning their Friday session ends at 12.45 pm.
Snacks
As part of the Government scheme all children are provided with a free piece of fruit or vegetable each day. Milk is also available. Children are encouraged to bring in a named water bottle. We would ask that you only send in water, not juice. It is very important that you inform school of any dietary requirements and or allergies as part of our learning may involve cookery and tasting foods.
Lunches
Lunch will be served in the main hall for children staying for full days.Townfield Primary School has an 'in-house' catering service. This enabled us to offer menus that tempt young palates and provide food that is healthier both in content and preparation. Our menu has been designed with the pupils and complies with nutritional regulations. We have taken the children's favourite dishes and made them healthier by using fresh ingredients. You can pay for your child’s school meals through our school payment system. Alternatively, children may bring in a packed lunch.
Early Years Curriculum
Activities in nursery are carefully planned and organised in order to provide a range of learning experiences.
Planning for each week is carried out using a topic-based approach, following the children’s interests and responding to specific events. To help bring the curriculum alive we often invite visitors in or go out on visits.
There are 7 Areas of Learning in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) that activities are planned around:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Physical Development
- Communication and Language
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the World
- Expressive Arts and Design
Nursery Clases
Our Nursery classes are overseen by our Nursery Teacher, Mrs Marland and is supported by a team of early years practitioners. Our Nursery setting has lots of exciting areas for children to play and learn in. Children have time to explore these areas during Continuous Provision. We often enhance the areas with resources linked to a topic, children’s interests or a skill. We also have weekly challenges.
We also have a Role Play Area that we change into lots of different and exciting places, plenty of cosy book nooks and a workshop area for painting and creating Art. Nursery also have their own outdoor area. We are also very fortunate to have our own Forest within the school grounds. Children will visit the forest once a week for their Forest School session.
