1C Science Materials

Date: 20th Mar 2024 @ 9:39pm

We have been finding out materials everyday objects are made from, their names, their uses and their properties. We tested some materials to see if they were absorbent, flexible, bouncy, bendy, brittle etc.

1C DT Fruit smoothies

Date: 20th Mar 2024 @ 9:38pm

In DT, we have been researching and evaluating fruits, and designing and making our own fruit smoothies. We got to blend them, taste them and evaluate our chosen methods. First we learned how to safely cut, peel and chop a variety of fruits using a bridge hold and a claw grip. We then tasted the fruits to see which fruits we wanted to include in our smoothies and then designed them. We then used our design to prepare, make and drink our smoothies.

1C Computing - programming a bot

Date: 20th Mar 2024 @ 9:33pm

In computing, we have been learning what the buttons on a floor bart, what each button is called and what the functions are. Once we became familiar with the functions, we programmed the bot to move using a 2 step command. Once we mastered this, we used more complex commands invloving more steps.

We also used these skills to meve a Beebot on our Ipads.

1C RE - Christianity

Date: 20th Mar 2024 @ 8:38pm

In RE, we have been studying Christianity. We explored belonging and making promises. We listened to a story from the bible that Christians believe in called Noah and the Ark. We learned that God made a promise to Noah and Noah made one back. We learned that some promises are easier to keep than others and created our own class puzzle of promises that we would like make and to try our best to keep them. The bible says that God always keeps his promises and Christians believe this to be true

We then studied how Christians welcome new babies through a Christening. We watched a short video of a baby being christened by a vicar. We learned who the people present at a christening are; Parents, God parents and a vicar. Once we had learned all about this, we role-played our own christenings.

In music we have started to look at Viking’s songs. We have been practicing singing in time as a whole class.

3C- Computing

Date: 20th Mar 2024 @ 3:56pm

In computing we are looking at branching databases. We first looked at simple yes and no questions, then further looked into using these questions to create a branching database with dinosaurs. We worked together in groups, to figure out how our questions and dinosaur pictures could be used to create a branching database. In another lesson, we used an online software called ‘j2data’ to create new branching databases.

3C - Art

Date: 20th Mar 2024 @ 3:53pm

In art we have been looking at Greek vases created by Monica Young. Following our artist Monica Young for inspiration, we have been designing and making our own Greek pots. We used clay to make our pots and then we blended acrylic paints together to create an earthy orange colour to paint our pots with.

3S: Computing - Branching Databases

Date: 16th Mar 2024 @ 6:46pm

Last week, we designed a branching database in teams on paper. This week, we created our own database using j2e.com on the iPads.

3S - PE: Athletics

We did some exciting team games in PE this week.

2MJ British Science Week

Date: 14th Mar 2024 @ 7:45pm

British Science Week ~ Time

For British Science Week we decided to play 'Metamorphosis Mayhem' which tied in nicely with our topic on animals including humans. We have been looking at life cycles and in particular this week, the life cycle of a butterfly and a frog. The children really enjoyed playing a game of rock, paper, scissors and moving through the different life stages of both a frog and a butterfly. They enjoyed competing with friends and observing who was going to make it to the final stage in the life cycle.
All of the children developed their knowledge of the different parts of both life cycles and learnt what the term 'metamorphosis' means. Well done 2MJ, I am sure you will remember this game as highlight of Year 2 as you all enjoyed it so much.

2MJ Science Live Lesson

Date: 14th Mar 2024 @ 7:31pm

Today, we took part in a live live lesson, delivered by TechSheCan. The lesson was all about 'Science in Sport'. The children learnt about wearables. These are things that people can wear when completing sports to track things such as, heart rate, temperature and speed. The children had a go at designing their own wearables and what data it would track. We also looked at how AI and other sciences are heavily involved in influencing different sports. Children were given the opportunity to explore different jobs within sports science and technology, to hopefully inspire future scientis
