Yesterday, we had a Viking Workshop in school. The children absolutely loved it, whilst gaining and consolidating their historical knowledge about Vikings. The children got the chance to find out lots of information, take part in role plays, explore different artefacts and completed a quiz.

In maths we have been learning how work out amounts in different ways, we had some very good accountants amoungst us!
Date: 7th May 2024 @ 9:05am
Friday was our last PE lesson with Miss Rowe. We have been so fortunate to have such a brilliant PE teacher and wish her all the best on her new adventure!
Nursery: Watch Me Grow (UTW/Science)
Date: 3rd May 2024 @ 9:30am
As part of our topic 'Watch Me Grow' we have been learning the parts of a plant as well as its life cycle. The children have been great at making and drawing observations as well as designing their own plants.
1C Science Materials in different forms with different properties
Date: 1st May 2024 @ 8:43pm
In this science lesson we investigated materials in different forms with different properties and discovered their different uses. We discovered that one material can take many different forms and that they can be both flexible AND rigid depending on this. We examined wood in paper form, cardboard form and as a table and we examined plastic as a spoon, a milk carton and as a raincoat. We felt them, squashed them and tested out their properties. From this, we then placed pictures of them into a Carrol diagram.
Date: 1st May 2024 @ 8:27pm
Our new RE topic is all about Creation, our favourite things that God has created.
In Lesson 1, we discussed the things that we are thankful for such as; our friends, our families, our homes, our food, our land, our animals etc. We discussed how some Christians believe that God created our world and are very thankful to him.
We then had a discussion about what WE are thankful for an what our favourite things in this world are.
In Lesson 2, we learned all about how Christians and people of the Jewish faith both believe that our world was created in the same way by God. We listened to an extract from the Old Testament and created some art to represent the creation story.
1C DT Free-standing structures
Date: 1st May 2024 @ 7:56pm
In DT this term, we are going to be looking at free-standing structures. We are going to be evaluating, planning and making our own chair for Baby Bear from Goldilocks and the Three Bears story.
Lesson 1 - we studied a variety of chairs and talked about what the name of the chair structures are; Stool, chair, high chair, directors chair, bar stool, the materials they were made from and why, their purpose and who would use them and why. We then looked at how they had been made stable;
Chair legs to give stability. The base (bottom) of the structure is usually wider than the top to help it be more stable and they aren’t normally too heavy at the top to stop them toppling over.
Lesson 2 - We explored how we could create our own free-standing structure using a variety of resources such as Lego, Kinex, paper and card, paper straws and cardboard tubes. We had to work out how we could make our structure strong and stable. We learned all about how a wide base and a butress can help support a free-standing structure, especially when it is a taller structure.
Lesson 3 - We had to make a table out of paper. We needed to use different folds and bases to enable it be free-standing, strong enough to hold a pair of scissors and stiff enough not to bend under the weight of the scissors.
1C Maths - measuring length using non standard measures
Date: 1st May 2024 @ 7:34pm
In maths we have been measuring length and hieght using non standard measures. We have learned that you can measure using all differnt kinds of objects as long as you call them units.
We have been using cubes, paper clips and even our hands and feet!!
Date: 30th Apr 2024 @ 2:41pm
We are so proud of our Peter Thorpe inspired space art. We explored different painting techniques, primary/secondary colours and marker pen line drawings.
Date: 29th Apr 2024 @ 4:17pm
During this week's science lesson, Year 4 have been looking at the different characteristics of plants and using classification keys.

3S - History: Shang Dynasty Drama Workshop
Date: 26th Apr 2024 @ 11:07pm
We all enjoyed a wonderful drama workshop today held by Altru Education. In History, this term, we are learning about the Shang Dynasty. We have only had one lesson so far but Lucy from Altru was very impressed about what we already knew from our first lesson. We told her all about Cheng Tang, the first Emperor of the Shang Dynasty, that he created his civilisation along the Yellow River and the reasons why he was a popular Emperor.
Lucy started off the workshop with some exciting games all about the hierarchy in the Shang Dynasty then we created freeze frames in groups to learn all about Fu Hao and the power she had during the Shang Dynasty. We then talked about the hierarchy again and how different people were treated. In groups, we created our own sketches and learnt poems to act out. Finally, we talked about and created freeze frames for the end of the Shang Dynasty.
We hope you enjoy looking through the photos and videos.
Date: 26th Apr 2024 @ 8:50am
In science, we are looking at living things. Yesterday, we explored different classification keys for leaves. We then looked at different types of leaves and classified them.
3S - Computing: Desktop Publishing
Date: 25th Apr 2024 @ 8:49pm
For our first computing lesson this term, we talked about how text and images communicate information and what the pros and cons of text and/or images are when it comes to signs. We enjoyed our paired task where we had to work out what the different signs meant by looking at the text and/or image on them.
Key Stage 2 Visit from the RNLI
Date: 25th Apr 2024 @ 8:39pm
This week, Key Stage 2 enjoyed a wonderful extended 'water safety' assembly by Sean and Andy, Lifeguards from the RNLI.
Date: 25th Apr 2024 @ 8:33pm
During our first PE lesson of the summer term, we practised 'tracking' a ball and stopping it as it was rollin* along the floor. This week, we practised our tracking skills by catching a ball as it was thrown through the air. We also practised our accuracy skills using a cricket bat to hit the ball gently back to the bowler.
Date: 25th Apr 2024 @ 5:02pm
In science, we have been exploring materials. We used a Carroll diagram to sort two types of materials into the categories of rigid and flexible. We found out that plastic and wood can be flexible and rigid. Paper and cardboard are made from wood and it has different properties in its different forms. Plastic is rigid or flexible depending on the purpose of the object.
Nursery - Exploring Flowers and Planting (UTW/Science)
Date: 25th Apr 2024 @ 11:03am
This children have enjoyed exploring the plants and flowers growing in our school. They were great at spotting their different shapes, colours and size.
The highlight of thr week was the children planting their own beanstalks inspired by our book of the week. They have shown their pots lots of love and care, checking on their growth multiple times a day.
Date: 19th Apr 2024 @ 3:05pm
Today,we discussed going online and how to be safe online.
Together we came up with a list of rules and decided that if we follow these rules we can enjoy going online.
Date: 16th Apr 2024 @ 1:52pm
The children love working in the woodland. They have been creating their own woodland creatures using clay. They had to mould and decorate their clay so it looked like a minibeast.
Date: 15th Apr 2024 @ 2:04pm
In our science lesson we had great fun learning about friction by investigating which material would cause the most friction on a ramp when a car went down it.
